Oh, The Things Money Can Buy You in the Smart Home Universe

I recently wrote a post about the possibilities of building a smart home system on the cheap. I had barely finished writing when curiosity kicked in. I began researching what you could actually get from the smart home universe if you had unlimited money to spend. Let me just say this: you can get a lot. You can get an awful lot.
There is no doubt that the smart home universe divides people by class. It is probably not intentional. Rather, it’s just the way capitalism works. Those who can afford it can get systems with so many bells and whistles that it would make your head spin. Those on the other end need to build their systems on a budget. Most of us fall somewhere in between.
Professional Installation
One of the best things money will buy in the smart home universe is professional installation. Sure, DIY installation is possible if you are trying to stick to a limited budget. But DIY installation also takes time and effort. It can be frustrating. too.
When you let a well-known provider like Vivint Home Security install your equipment, your experience is hassle free. You only need to be there to let them in. The installers take care of everything else. They even show you how to use your system before they leave. To me, it is no different than having a professional cut my grass, fix my HVAC, or power wash my house. It’s easy peasy.
State-of-the-Art Equipment
Here is what else money will buy you in the smart home universe: state-of-the-art equipment. Money will buy you all the latest and greatest devices from the leading names in smart home tech. You can get top-of-the-line lighting systems, video cameras, smart locks, thermostats, and even smart home hubs.
Why spend the extra money? Because the best devices come with the best features. Why invest in a basic video camera that does nothing but record data when you can get one with built-in motion sensing, tilt and zoom control, two-way audio capabilities, infrared night vision, and more? You might as well go with the best if you can afford to do so.
Let’s Talk More About Those Features
For me, the icing on the cake are the advanced features that come with high-end smart home devices. I recently read a post reviewing Vivint systems and discovered that their smart home hub fully integrates with industry leading smart speakers. Not only that, but Vivint technology also makes strong use of AI.
The post discuses a homeowner’s ability to control nearly every component in his system with voice commands. One command turns lights on and off. Another adjusts the thermostat. Still another command can lock and unlock the door. But that’s not all. Systems can be programmed to implement a cascading series of events based on a single trigger.
Vivint is not the only provider that offers such functions. There are others. Regardless, imagine programming a system that is integrated with the GPS features on your phone. You can program the system to react to your location. For example, leave for work in the morning and the system automatically locks the doors, turns off all the lights, adjusts the thermostat, and even closes the garage door.
What I have discussed in this post barely scratches the surface. If you have money, it can buy you an awful lot in the smart home universe. My only complaint is that my budget is limited. If it were not, I would be doing everything in my power to build the smartest smart home system ever.
